The Exhibition “Pau Casals: an Engaged Musician” in Madrid

From 19th January to the coming 11th April, the Blanquerna Cultural Centre of Madrid hosts the exhibition "Pau Casals: an Engaged Musician”, an adaptation of the exhibition “Pau Casals and the Exile” which was inaugurated in 2007 at the Pau Casals Museum of El Vendrell.

“Pau Casals: an Engaged Musician” is a travelling exhibition which seeks to make known the figure of this great musician, one of the best cellists of the 20th century, as an example of an artist engaged with the cause of freedom, peace and democracy, placing special emphasis on his period in exile.

The exhibition has been produced by the Pau Casals Foundation together with the Catalan Government’s Department of the Presidency, Office for the Promotion of Peace and Human Rights, and Directorate-General for the Democratic Memorial, attached to the Department of Home Affairs and Institutional Relations.

Programmed in parallel is a series of round tables which will pivot around the figure of Pau Casals, with the intervention of acclaimed journalists, writers and musicologists. The closing ceremony will feature a concert with the cellist Iagoba Fanlo.

The exhibition “Pau Casals: an Engaged Musician” may be visited at the Blanquerna Cultural Centre (Calle Alcalá, 44) on Mondays to Fridays from 10.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. www.ccblanquerna.cat
