On 29 December 2026, we will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pablo Casals. He is one of the most universal figures in Catalan culture and an undisputed reference among the leading musicians of the 20th century. An exceptional cellist, conductor, composer, pedagogue, and humanist, Pablo Casals is remembered not only for his extraordinary musical talent, but also for his firm commitment to the values of freedom, democracy, and peace, which profoundly shaped his life and artistic career.
To mark this anniversary, the Pau Casals Foundation is promoting this commemoration throughout 2026 and 2027, a unique opportunity to reaffirm his legacy and to highlight the breadth of his musical and humanistic heritage from a contemporary perspective, open to dialogue with the cultural and social challenges of the present.
Casals 150 is driving a wide-ranging and diverse programme of exhibitions, concerts, educational and participatory activities, as well as national and international events, with the aim of bringing the work, thought, and values of Pablo Casals closer to all generations and to diverse audiences.
This commemoration has been officially declared by the Government of Catalonia and recognised as an Event of Exceptional Public Interest by the Government of Spain.
The official launch of the commemoration, together with the presentation of the full programme and the planned activities, will take place from mid-April 2026 onwards.
We invite you to join us in commemorating this anniversary.
