A soirée framed within the Pablo Casals Day Barcelona, through which we celebrate and commemorate the historical and symbolic bond of Pablo Casals with the city of Barcelona and the master’s international musical dimension.
In the year marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pablo Casals, this concert takes on a particularly symbolic character. The Casals Quartet, one of the most international and highly regarded chamber ensembles in our country, heir to the spirit of the master, takes center stage in one of the culminating moments of the cycle. Accompanied by pianist Alexander Melnikov, they perform two cornerstone works of the repertoire: Shostakovich’s Third Quartet, marked by dramatic intensity and formal refinement, and Brahms’s Piano Quintet, a monument of Romantic chamber music.
