An evening framed within Pablo Casals Day Barcelona, through which we celebrate and commemorate the historical and symbolic bond between Pablo Casals Day Barcelona and with which we celebrate and commemorate the historical and symbolic bond between Pablo Casals and the city of Barcelona and the maestro’s international musical dimension.
In the year of the 150th anniversary of Pablo Casals‘ birth, this concert takes on a particularly symbolic character. The Casals Quartet, one of the most international and recognized chamber ensembles in our country, heir to the maestro’s spirit, stars in one of the cycle’s highlights. Accompanied by pianist Alexander Melnikov, they perform two seminal works from the repertoire: Shostakovich’s third quartet, of dramatic intensity and formal refinement, and Brahms’s Piano Quintet, a monument of romantic chamber music.
