This weekend, on May 17 and 18, the Pau Casals Museum will join the celebration of International Museum Day and Museum Night 2025 with Open Doors events and free activities for all audiences.
This year, ICOM proposes to celebrate International Museum Day under the theme: “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,” focusing on the transformative role of museums in a world undergoing deep social, technological, and environmental changes.
Museums have ceased to be mere spaces of conservation and have become key players in building more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive communities. This year’s theme is aligned with three Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing the sector’s commitment to society:
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth: Museums boost the local economy by generating employment and offering educational programs that empower communities.
- SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: By promoting creativity and adopting new technologies, museums foster innovation and improve accessibility to their content and services.
- SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: Museums serve as dynamic cultural hubs that contribute to sustainable urban development by promoting social inclusion, heritage preservation, and community cohesion.
