On December 29, 2026, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pablo Casals will be celebrated, one of the most universal figures of Catalan culture and an undisputed reference in 20th-century music. On the occasion of this anniversary, the Pablo Casals Foundation is promoting the commemoration of this milestone, which will extend throughout the years 2026 and 2027.
An exceptional cellist, conductor, composer, pedagogue, and humanist, Pablo Casals is remembered not only for his extraordinary musical talent, but also for his firm commitment to the values of freedom, democracy, and peace, which profoundly shaped his personal and artistic life.
The commemoration arises as a unique opportunity to reaffirm the figure of Pablo Casals and to highlight the value of his extensive musical and humanistic legacy from a contemporary perspective, open to dialogue with the cultural and social challenges of the present.
The program will include a wide range of exhibitions, concerts, educational activities, and participatory initiatives, as well as events of a national and international nature, with the aim of bringing the work, thought, and values of Pablo Casals closer to all generations and diverse audiences.
This commemoration has been officially declared by the Government of Catalonia and recognized as an Event of Exceptional Public Interest (Acontecimiento de Excepcional Interés Público) by the Government of Spain, which reinforces its cultural and institutional relevance.
The official launch of the commemoration, as well as the presentation of the full program and the planned activities, will take place next April 2026.
The Pablo Casals Foundation invites the public and institutions to actively participate in this commemoration and to join in paying tribute to a key figure in music and in the universal values of the 20th century.
