More than 350 students from 14 schools classified as of highest complexity participated during the 2024–2025 academic year in the educational project “Teixint Músiques,” an initiative that seeks to promote social cohesion, dialogue, and artistic creation through music. The project, driven by the Pau Casals Foundation and supported by the “la Caixa” Foundation, is primarily aimed at pupils in 5th and 6th grade of primary school.
Since its inception in 2014, over 3,000 students from across Catalonia have benefited from this educational experience, which advocates for a more inclusive and participatory school. The proposal is inspired by Pau Casals’ phrase “We are all leaves of the same tree and the tree is humanity,” and fosters values such as equality, peace, culture, and respect.
A cross-curricular educational project
“Teixint Músiques” is a cross-curricular project that connects various areas of the curriculum—such as social sciences, music, visual and plastic arts, and social and civic values—and, thanks to the support of the “la Caixa” Foundation, is completely free for participating schools. The project is divided into two formats:
Short‑term project “Teixint la nostra partitura”: Conducted by 10 schools across the region, it includes training for teachers, a free visit to the Pau Casals Museum, and a musical co‑creation workshop. The organization also covers transport and lunch for the students on the outing day.
The participating schools this year have been:
- Escola Mestre Agustí Barberà (Amposta)
- Escola Maria Garcia i Cabanes (l’Aldea)
- Escola Joaquim Cusí i Fortunet (Figueres)
- Escola Cervantes (Barcelona)
- Escola Joan XXIII (Lleida)
- Escola Joan Miró (Badalona)
- Escola Antoni Ubach i Soler (Terrassa)
- Escola Ramon Faus i Esteve (Guissona)
- Escola Santa Coloma (Santa Coloma de Gramenet)
- Escola Antoni Gaudí (Santa Margarida de Montbui)
Long‑term project “Construint els nostres mapes sonors”: Intended for schools that wish to develop a year‑long project, it includes teacher training and classroom workshops and activities. The proposal culminates in a visit to the Pau Casals Museum and a final performance at the Pau Casals Auditorium in Vendrell, which this year took place on June 6. As a new feature for 2025, it includes the collaboration of rapper Rodrigo Laviña, who guided students in musical creation and rap‑style storytelling.
The participating schools have been:
- Escola Teresa Altet (Rubí)
- Escola Escursell (Ripollet)
- Escola Els Baltis (Valls)
- Escola Gornal (l’Hospitalet de Llobregat)
A multidisciplinary team
The project is the result of collaborative work among the Pau Casals Museum, the company Schola Didàctica Activa—specialized in educational visits and workshops—and the Cellolab team, responsible for musical direction and coordination and composed of cellists Laura Folch, Jesús Valls, and Gabriel Oteo. In addition, rapper Rodrigo Laviña played a prominent role in content creation and facilitation of the musical activity.
