The final audition of the Pablo Casals International Award for Young Cellists was held on 26th November 2018 in the Municipal School of Music Auditorium in El Vendrell. This year’s jury was made up of internationally renowned cellists such as Marc Coppey, Alban Gerhardt, Frans Helmerson and Arnau Tomàs, winner of the Award in 1991. Marta Casals, Pablo Casals’ widow, presided over the jury.
Born in Valladolid (Spain) in 1998, she studied cello with Maria Kliegel and prawn viola and baroque cello with Rainer Zipperling at HfMT Köln (Germany). She has won prizes in several national and international competitions, including the Permanent Competition for Musical Youth in Spain 2014, the Pablo Casals International Award for Young Cellists 2018 and the Comte Oeiras Early Music Competition 2012. She debuted as a soloist in a orchestra in 2014 and his recitals include his appearance at the festival Um músic, um patron of the National Museum of Music in Lisbon, where he performed the complete sonnets of Vivaldi with the cello Galrão “King Luis” of the year 1796. his training has been enriched with different courses with prestigious musicians such as Natalia Gutman, Jordi Savall and Paolo Pandolfo, among others. He currently enjoys a variety of concert performances with his three instruments, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. His baroque group La réjouissance was recently awarded a scholarship by Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Stiftung. In addition, he regularly participates in productions and concerts of the Kölner Akademie Orchestra.
